Airbnb CEO Says There Will Be a New Golden Age of Travel
Sep.21 — Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky shares his thoughts on how travel will change after the pandemic, employees continuing to work from home, cracking down on “party houses,” and his company’s push to help house up to 20,000 Afghan refugees. He speaks with Bloomberg Technology’s Emily Chang.

I think a lot of this depends on COVID regulations. I used to love traveling but now I hate it because the rules keep changing and I never know what to expect when I go somewhere. Travel used to give me a sense of freedom, but the last thing I want when I’m traveling is to be bossed around and made to follow a list of ever-changing rules. I think a lot of others feel the same and many will not find it worthwhile to travel as much as before.
He is lying
Embrace the flexibility and family. No one will prioritize office and 9-5 over family and their work life balance
No one cares about whether or not it's men or women who are hosts. Really, no one cares so you don't need to mention it.
He is right about this. I have been building up some money to start off my life abroad and I wont stop until I physically cant
Thanks
HOA's are the WORST please get some laws passed
Airbnb banned me for live as superhost with more than 100 positive reviews in 2.5 years. I just complained in a phone call with the customer support about a guest that broke the law and house rules and they banned me then for life as host and guest. This company is pure unjustice and I hope more people get to know about this. They spend millions also on preventing the truth coming out. For example 7 million to a raped woman so she doesnt mention that she used Airbnb when it happened. This company is the pure evil and fake. And the refugees, crisis whatever stuff is just to keep this positive fake image. The CEO is evil and has very bad systems in his company that bans superhosts with 100ths of positive reviews for having an incident with 1 bad guest.
Yeah and it would happen on their platform if they offered rewards points
Home remote work is just a way to bring in Universal income, companies are gonna get rid of all their employees eventually because they're not going to need them and the Metaverse will be in full affect, so people will be zombies in their homes.
how fantastic !! 👋
I was lucky enough to travel in the Golden Age of Flying back in the '50's and '60's and early '70's. My dad was an executive with Pan American Airways and we traveled the world, First Class. We slept in berths and ate Chateaubriand. There were porters to handle your luggage and we were dressed in our Sunday best. I could tell the difference of a great or mediocre Bernaise sauce by the time I was 10 y.o.
Traveling now is like being in the Dark Ages and is vulgar and common, surrounded by rif raf ready to punch out the cabin crew, squeezed into seats that are meant for a 10 y.o. I still would like to see many places, but getting there is a grueling punishment. Only the super rich can afford First Class on Emirate Airlines.
After lockdown, I am now housebound and uneasy and anxious going further than in my 5 mile bubble of doctors, groceries, pet groomer and a few restaurants that survived. I think I have PTSD from it all and understand how people must feel, that were kidnapped and locked up. I guess it's just fallout from being old (71)…dammit to hell. The world has changed and not for the better. Sad.
Booked a reservation and was cancel for one felony but they have people with multiple ones rent all the time
hes a great communicator
Covid proofs that we can have fun without traveling
Everyone is touting what is good for them..and of course Airbnb – what is good for them .. everything will be just disruptive…this is not good for travel ..middle class disappearing which is another con
So says the rich guy
Awkward ending there
He's 40….
How about hosting homeless Americans, specifically homeless vets, before focusing on Afghan refugees?
Airbnb is suck. It charges so much fees & not delivering good services. Every place I have stayed had problem such as smoke, thing doesn't work in the house. There's a place seems a decent place to stay, but the owner left us a long note for what we must do before leaving the house such as put all towels & sheets & put dishes in the washer. She charged us $125 for cleaning & expected us to do the cleaning before leaving.
You can't trust Airbnb. They remove poor reviews, even though this is how people choose rentals. I left an honest review that they deleted for no reason.
why didn't you ask the CEO why airbnb has put a BLM banner on their website and so that their political affiliations are being rubbed into the faces of their clients? I'm a big fan of airbnb but I can't make any sense of what they have done
I just hope WFH will be the norm so we can be wherever we want to work and some of us don't have to be separated from our love ones to find work to other countries and live in a cheaper residence and save lots from commuting.
Airbnb can benefit from the tremendous demand in quarantine hotels.
The safety comments alarm me. Anyone of these big companies or governments for that matter looking to "increase safety" screams big $$$ to the data companies that harvest all our data and whatever ways used to monitor people. I dont like more control mechanisms. Less boxes, physically and/or energetically.
Women are most of the hosts because many of the properties are jointly owned between men and women and the wife is a homemaker so runs the airbnb when the man has the job. That is the reality rather than many females making businesses on airbnb.
All i got from this video is to witness the host's ugiest haircut 🙁
He's just trying to put ideas in heads, and engineer demand.
I’m incredibly skeptical. How many jobs are remote? Like what percentage? Most “office workers” have been forced by their employers to go back to the office everyday a long time ago. I want to know what world this guy lives in.
Who has money for leisure travel right now? Also creepy white dude blinks way too much.
If you have an Airbnb, and you’d like to put an arcade cabinet in it to attract guests, I do a very nice build for Umbrella Arcades. Its a modern, wall-mounted unit with most of gaming history pre-installed. The cabinets are handmade in PA.
He looks like an executive version of Jake Paul…
I'm a freelancer and the only thing holding me from traveling all around the world is my girlfriend (lol), but he is 100% correct and I've seen that the WFH figure is becoming a potential golden standard for office jobs (what I mean is, if there's any chance you can do the work from home, the employer tries to make it happen as an added benefit)
The question is when?
Airbnb does not honor their host guarantee. Makes hosts provide all evidence, most of the times in vain where a case just gets closed and hosts are left holding the bag. They raised their fees on guests from 9 to 14% but didn’t make much mention of that. Plus what they take from hosts. Reservations do come in through there but don’t ever count on their “support”, even less on their “guarantees”.
No houses for sale to do Airbnb 🤨and expensive what in the market
Absolutely agree. This reality is not for everyone though. Brian pointed out that they are using WFH to attract TALENT. This means there are many low-skilled workers who are still working the front desk or service-based businesses. However: if you are gaining skills and growing your career I expect you'll have A LOT more flexibility than ever before.
He is assuming everyone will get vaxxed to travel
What's wrong with the interviewers face?
Airbnb, like many tech businesses, doesn't produce anything other than a platform. They are only a conduit or middle man for services that the public provides, ie, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Airbnb. The users are the one providing content, or lodging in the case of Airbnb.
Love the remote summer idea
